What is Pligg?
Pligg is an Open Source Content Management System (CMS)[[1]]. Pligg is an open source content management system system that is designed for large social news gathering websites. It provides an out of the box solution for setting up a site that allows any registered member to submit and publish news and rate other author's news articles based on the quality of the content. This method for content management is unique compared to all other content management systems because Pligg was built from the ground up as a social news submission site where registered members can publish their own content and other users determine what is qualified to be published on the homepage.
How Does Pligg Work?
Pligg can be used in many different ways, but the two most popular ways to run a Pligg site are for social news and submitting suggestions.
The social news method is the original design for Pligg. Users register for an account and then can rate articles submitted by other users. Articles that receive enough votes appear on the homepage while articles that don't receive enough votes are left permanently in the "upcoming" page. Users can also submit an article to the site through a simple three step submission process.
The suggestion method is one used often on internal and public sites for companies trying to get user feedback about their product. A user can easily submit a bug or feature request and then other users can add their opinion to the article by commenting on it or just simply voting it up.
